I have learned it dates to sometime between 1910-17 or so

I’m not entirely certain but would guess mid-late 19th century and think likely European

it reminds me a lot of one of my favorite objects ever: an early Arikara Native American hide shield held in the collection of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City

there are clean splits visible on either side of the end that fits into the cap

Feels a bit like a Viking shield, good for self protecting and warding off the world! And with flat, smooth surface, it makes a useful pot lid indeed.
